Glenwood Celebrates Reading
In honor of Dr. Seuss, Glenwood Avenue Elementary School celebrated reading in a big way. The entire week of March 3, 2008 was busy with over 50 Guest Readers from the community who read to many of the classes. Also there was a special theme each day. On Monday, Dr. Seuss's birthday was celebrated with a bilingual message: En cualquier momento, Dondequiera, En cualquier lugar, Leer! (Anywhere, Anytime, Anyplace, Read!) Tuesday was Diffendoofer Day and the staff and students wore mismatched clothing to be unique or Diffendooferous! Wednesday was Team Up with Reading Day and several star athletes from Wildwood High School shared their favorite book with the students. On Thursday, everyone wore shirts with writing on it to celebrate Read a Kid Day, and Friday's theme Grab a Hat and Read with a Cat, had everyone wearing their favorite hat! The fifth graders hosted a Reading Cafe and you could even order "worms" from the book, How to Eat Fried Worms, or "animal crackers" from the book If I Ran the Zoo. It was a great week of celebrating the importance of reading and a lot of fun as well!
